Types of India Post Holidays
India Post observes multiple categories of holidays, depending on your state and postal circle:

National Holidays (All India)
India Post remains closed nationwide on these three days:
- Republic Day – 26 January
- Independence Day – 15 August
- Gandhi Jayanti – 2 October
No Speed Post delivery happens on these days.
Does Speed Post Deliver on Sunday?
Normally, Speed Post does not deliver on Sundays. However, there are exceptions:
- Important government documents may still be delivered.
- Some cities run special delivery drives during festival seasons.
- Business / bulk shipments may be delivered on request.

Is Post Office Open on Second Saturday?
Most India Post counters remain closed on second Saturdays. But:
- Sorting centres continue operations normally.
- Long-distance dispatches occur even on holidays.
- Speed Post parcels may still move in transit.

Each state postal circle publishes its own festival and regional holiday list. Examples:
- Onam – Kerala Postal Circle

- Durga Puja – West Bengal Postal Circle
- Eid-ul-Fitr – All states
- Maha Shivratri – Many states
On these days, counters remain closed, but internal transport may still run.

Delivery time may extend by 1–3 days depending on:
- National holidays
- Long weekends
- State-specific festival holidays

- Strikes or local shutdowns

Does Tracking Update on Holidays?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no — depending on the facility:
- Sorting centres continue working on most holidays → tracking may still update.
- Delivery offices are usually closed → no delivery or delivery attempt.
